What a bummer, and such beautiful mugs too! You sure can't rush pottery. I have had a few explosions myself lately. Breathe....
That really sucks... but messing up good pieces is much better than not being able to throw good pieces to mess up, right?
Next time, try a candle. Use a ramp/hold firing schedule and for the first ramp, do 80°/hour to 220°, holding there for 4-8 hours (depending on how wet the pieces are). I have bisqued some really damp stuff, but never lost any with this method!!
