little monsters
my last batch of monsters. I'm thinking about adding more colors and backdrops to them, something a little more graphic.

i wish i had made it
I've had nothing but time on my hands (thanks you jake) and have been thinking a lot about my grad school experience. I think I would have done a lot of things differently. I stumbled upon this beauty by Eric Nels Patterson
seriously, why didn't i make that?
the closest i got were these
the pine cone looking things are slip dipped pine cones fired to cone 6

i'm addicted
to etsy.
It's one of those awful and fantastic things. I love looking at other peoples stuff. I'm not a buyer, I hate shopping, I hate buying things just for the sake of nothing else to do. I've never understood the need to buy multiple pairs of shoes ( I own a pair of sneakers and sandals) and have always made fun of people for such activities, but with etsy... I can't help it!!! I woke up at 3am last night went to my happy place on the internet and there was the most beautiful bowl i have ever seen. I tried to hold back but my fingers just kept clicking and I bought it.
I have a long list of artists that I want, but my list of the acquired is growing fast as well (as is my debt).
Here is my want list
fergusonpottery
kyle carpenter
ron philbeck
CampanaCeramics
kiefferceramics
janellesonger
happyclay
Mel Robson
jeff huebner
kristen swanson
David Eichelberger
kip o krongly
Annie Singletary
Brooke Noble
acquired list
John Britt
Joy Tanner
Will Baker
Emily Reason
Naomi Cleary
Ayumi Horie
Kent McLaughlin
Linda McFarling

If Jake gets mad at me, I suppose I could hand him plastic dishes to eat out of.

part 1
First I grab my greenware at before leather hard stage.
I also get my brush and wax resist.
Brush the wax resist where i want to draw. Sometimes it is a tiny area, sometimes it's the entire pot. make sure you shake the waz up real well and add 2-3 layers of wax. A thin application will make the underglaze bleed through.
Because it get's humid in florida and things don't dry quickly I set the cup in front of my trusty space heater for a few minutes
Then I grab my carving tools. Usually a pen, nail, toothpick, and tweezers that i have pulled apart. Carve my drawing into the waxed areas.
Brush underglaze onto the carved areas. The underglaze should get into the lines and pool on top. Take a moist sponge and wipe off excess.

just pics from today
drawing
I've been asked by a few people at the studio, and through email to explain my drawing method. My buddy Matt wanted me to post pictures of my process and I've been meaning to, but I keep forgetting to take the camera with me. I'll get it done sometime this week, promise. :)

monster cups!
I had so much fun making these and i'm so glad they turned out to my liking.
I've been searching for the right subject since starting my clay adventure. I started out with the figure/mannequin cups that were a little too stiff. At some point I started using Jake's drawings
but those weren't mine. And then I got on a inanimate object kick
I didn't really have fun drawing washer/dryer/fridges/lamps
so not sure where these monsters came from but i feel really affectionate towards them and look forward to developing them further.

patience
Whenever I'm trying something new I always lose my patience towards the end. Once the firing is complete and i'm waiting for the cool down I get so anxious. This is why I try to time the cone 6 firings to cool while i'm sleeping.
Hopefully I'll have some pictures to post tomorrow morning. I'm excited, but I'm generally excited about anything clay related.
